Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Incident Investigation The Work Safety Guidelines are a comprehensive set of SOPs prepared in accordance with national laws and regulations to guide all eldercare workers on the risks involved in their daily work, alongside associated mitigative actions. The SOPs define the roles and responsibilities of various functions in operations management and crisis management. Each department must appoint a Safety Personnel responsible for daily walkabouts to identify hazards and rectify any safety-related issues in eldercare homes and medical centres. The Safety Officer would then crosscheck the daily findings. Employee Participation, Consultation and Communication on Occupational Health and Safety Every month, a Safety Review Meeting is held under the supervision of the Safety Officer, where all the Safety Personnel gather to discuss major health and safety concerns and share good practices. Sufficient training is given to all eldercare workers or caregivers to equip them with practical skills and the right attitude to perform their duties effectively. To instil a safety-first culture, all new medical staff must undergo mandatory induction training on safe work practices and measures to be taken during daily operations or emergencies. In addition, all employees at healthcare properties also receive basic first aid training to ensure that they will be able to react quickly and appropriately in times of emergency. Through regular reviews of policies and work procedures, Perennial Holdings is committed to constantly improving the safety culture within its properties. Properties in China have been increasing the robustness of safety inspections and facility and equipment maintenance through regular maintenance schedules and monitoring. These inspections and maintenance works cover electrical units and systems, air conditioning, fire systems, escalators, plumbing, wastewater and sewage systems as well as overall building maintenance. These scheduled works ensure that all equipment and systems are operating efficiently and safely. In FY2023, Perennial Holdings recorded zero cases of fatalities, high-consequence work-related injuries4 or occupational diseases across its real estate operations in Singapore and China operations. There was one case of a minor workplace injury, a drop from two cases in FY2022. The incident involved a minor sprain injury sustained by an employee in the office, for which measures have been put in place to prevent any future recurrence. In line with Perennial Holdings’ commitment to promoting physical and mental wellness, significant enhancements were made to employees’ medical insurance benefits, including expanded coverage for hospital visits and consultations with general practitioners and specialists. In addition, Perennial Holdings organised health talks, which contained the added convenience of on-site spinal checks within the office premises.
